Making Traditional Prayers and how to connect to Spirit. By now you may understand that Traditional people pray extensively in the old way… but who do they pray to? What level of trust or evidence has been provided to them to help them understand that their efforts are making a difference? In part 2 in our Foundations Program we go into this conversation super deep, so for the sake of this blog post we are going to share a few examples of Traditional Prayers that we use on a daily basis. First, there are some universal basics that all prayers share… These are:

An offering. When acknowledging Spirit, or making a request through prayer, we make a tobacco offering. Tobacco is the one plant that Spirit recognizes as trade for their help. A pinch of tobacco is what we use when in communication with Spirit. If tobacco is not present, most plants that were harvested in a good way will do. As long as there is an offering, our helpers on the other side will know that we are serious about the request that we are making.

Acknowledgment. Acknowledging can be as simple as naming all the things that you are grateful for… be generous in the things that you name. There is no wrong way to give thanks. Especially in the beginning of your journey. It will definitely take time to get good at giving thanks. As we find and memorize our flow as well as integrating inspiration from those around us. Prayers are fluid and change and grow all the time, so feel free to change yours regularly :)

Next, gratitude. Showing gratitude for all those (yes, many times we are guided by more than one Guide, Angel, Protector) who guide and walk with us on the other side. The first to be acknowledged is always Creator. Followed by Mother Earth and then our Guides and Protectors. So as you are holding your tobacco offering in your left hand, you can start your prayer using acknowledgement and gratitude…

Thank you Creator

Thank you Mother Earth

Thank you to my Guides and Protectors

From here you can go in any direction, and depending on your intention, you can focus your prayers to suit any situation.
